Become a Trustee

Thank you for expressing interest in becoming a Trustee of Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation

The Trustees play a key role within the Foundation, providing strategic direction and supporting the Chief Executive Officer and Senior Leadership Team to achieve our objectives. Trustees bring a wealth experience from all sectors including governance, marketing, HR, finance, education, health and of course football.

The objectives of the Foundation are to use the power of football and our association with Shrewsbury Town FC to

· Create healthier and more active communities,

· Improve educational and employability opportunities,

· Provide safer places and spaces

· Develop our club and inspire our supporters.

At the centre of our mission is the belief that a Football Club should be recognised for more than its latest result, league position or cup run. Since Shrewsbury Town Football Club was established in 1886 it has held a significant and prominent position within the local community

Established in 1996, Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation has established strong links with community organisations, local authority and the English Football League Trust and Premier League Charitable Trust who are amongst our biggest financial supporters

Since Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation was formed it has come a long way. Today the Foundation generates more than £6.2 million of social value per year through the delivery of community focused activity across Shropshire. However we know we can do more through increasing the quality of our delivery and our range and location of work.

We are at an exciting stage of the Foundation’s history, having recently completed the installation of a £1 million community facility at Shrewsbury Town Football Club. This has enabled the charity to play a key role in providing activities that support improving education and employability opportunities and create a healthier community.

The Role of a Trustee

Trustees provide an essential role within all charities. As volunteers, they give up their time to help ensure a charity operates effectively.

Trustees have responsibility for making sure the charity is doing what it is set out to do. They ensure the charity is sustainable, financially viable and governed effectively. Trustees act with integrity and always put the interests of the charity and beneficiaries first.

Trustees use their skills and experience effectively to ensure the charity achieves its charitable objectives, to decide overall strategies and to support the CEO and senior management

Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation has up to 12 Trustees, and we aim to be inclusive and reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We also include key executives from Shrewsbury Town Football Club.

Our Trustees bring a wealth of experience from all sectors and walks of life, including, media, education, the health sector, football, and business. Some also have a passion for Shrewsbury Town Football Club although this is not an essential requirement.

Trustees support and participate in some Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation events throughout the year and provide input on at least one specific area or skill that is relevant to them such as delivering our services and programmes, HR, finance, or fundraising

Trustees normally attend four board meetings each year and, depending on their role and expertise, other committee or advisory group meetings. We usually invite prospective Trustees to observe one or more meetings before confirming their appointment.

Most people over the age of 18 can become a Trustee. The most important thing you will bring to Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation is the commitment to our charitable aims and enthusiasm for the work we do.

Becoming a Trustee can be truly rewarding thing to do no matter what your stage of life
