Members of the Shrewsbury Town Foundation ex-military support group were recognised on Military Match Day on Saturday 21st March, celebrating the role they play within the Foundation’s Health & Wellbeing provision.
More than just a weekly session, the group has become a strong and supportive community built on shared experience and understanding. It offers a space where veterans can connect, talk openly, and feel part of the community.
The group meets every Tuesday at 12:30pm at Smithy’s Bar at The Croud Meadow, providing a consistent and welcoming environment for individuals to come together. These sessions play an important role in supporting mental health, reducing isolation, and helping members rebuild confidence through connection. We also offer a wide range of workshops delivered in partnership with the Royal British Legion and other partnership programmes.
A key strength of the group is its inclusivity. New members are always welcomed, with a real emphasis on making everyone feel comfortable and part of the community from day one. This supportive approach has helped create an environment where individuals form friendships, and support one another.
Military Match Day provided an opportunity to celebrate the group not only for their service, but for the positive impact they continue to have today. Their commitment to supporting each other highlights the importance of community and the difference it can make to people’s health and wellbeing.
