Creating A Space To Flourish

The football club’s charity, Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation, will be bringing fresh colour and enchantment to its Wellbeing Garden thanks to new funding.

“We’re delighted to say we’ll be restoring and refreshing our Wellbeing Garden thanks to funding secured for us by Shrewsbury Town Councillor Phil Gillam,” said Louiza Skinner, the foundation’s partnerships lead.

“We need to purchase more tools, seeds, materials to create raised beds and planters, topsoil, a small quantity of paving slabs, a poly-tunnel, a gazebo structure, and a bench — and we’ll now be in a position to do all this thanks to the new funding.”

Councillor Gillam said: “I’m thrilled we’ve found a way to refresh the Wellbeing Garden. This lovely, quiet space is used for outdoor activities by social groups, offers respite for guardians, parents, and carers who bring participants to the foundation’s many sessions, and also serves as a therapeutic space for anyone who wants to spend quiet time or tend the garden while visiting.”

Alongside the funding received, the garden is being transformed thanks to the continued support of dedicated volunteer Meg, who has generously donated her time, energy, and gardening expertise to help nurture the space into something truly special.

Her efforts have already made a noticeable difference and are helping the garden blossom into a more vibrant and inviting place.

The garden also plays an important role in the foundation’s wellbeing and inclusion programmes, with participants regularly taking part in weekly sessions where they learn about planting, nature, and teamwork.

We’re excited to see the garden continue to grow — not just in plants and greenery, but as a safe, inclusive, and welcoming outdoor space where people of all backgrounds can come together, connect with nature, and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors.
