New Education programme is coming to South Shropshire

Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation partners with Ludlow College to launch a new South Shropshire Football & Education Programme.

Thanks to this new partnership, Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation will be able to further enhance their academic offering, allowing students to gain cutting edge learning experiences on their pathway to employment in the industry in South Shropshire.

Ludlow College is the major provider of 16-19 Education in South Shropshire, offering A Level, Vocational and adult education for learners of all abilities.

By partnering with Ludlow College, we can ensure that we set the standard for sports education that truly inspires young people to succeed. By keeping the student at the centre of our education experience, we ensure that the most important element of any education is prioritised.

We are offering a Post 16 NCFE Level 3 in Sport & Physical Activity, equivalent to 3 A Levels, where students will combine their studies with a 6 hours per week practical training programme, as well as representing Shrewsbury Town FC in the National CEFA League. Based across the Ludlow Football Stadium and Ludlow College facilities, students will benefit from a high-quality training & teaching environment which will best prepare them to study at university or for work-life within a professional setting.

Potential exit routes from the programme include Higher Education Courses at the Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation, including Community Football Coaching & Development, Sports Coaching and Development and Sports Business Management Degree programmes, in partnership with the University of South Wales; as well as apprenticeships, College Scholarships aboard and employment.

Jamie Edwards, CEO of the Foundation commented:

“Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation have been offering post 16 education programmes in partnership with education providers since 2014. The aim of the foundation is to bring education to life by integrating key areas of a football club to the curriculum. We are delighted to be doing this with Ludlow College after successfully working in partnership for a number of years on a range of projects.”

Carl Morris, Head of Ludlow and North Shropshire Colleges added:

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Ludlow College and Shrewsbury Town FC to work in partnership to provide young people with the opportunity to study college qualifications while focusing on their passion for football. This programme will open up a range of exciting career opportunities for graduates of the programme.”
