On Saturday 12th January we held our final qualifier at the Mercedes-Benz Football Hub to find out who would be representing Shrewsbury Town in the Utilita Kids Cup Regional competition in February.

The final was contested between Burford Primary School and St Andrews Primary School who had each won their area qualifiers in South Shropshire and Shrewsbury respectively to make it to our final.

Both teams arrived bright and early at Montgomery Waters Meadow and played out a very even and exciting game – with each team taking the lead before being pegged back leaving the scores all square at 2-2 when the full time whistle sounded.

Extra-Time was needed to separate the teams and on the stroke of half-time in the added period, St Andrews managed to get the ball in the back of the net, and despite a continuous onslaught from Burford in the dying minutes, managed to hold on and secure their place.

All players involved on the day should be very proud of their efforts and both teams took part in a lap of honour around Montgomery Waters Meadow at half-time of the Shrewsbury Town vs Lincoln City game.

We would like to thank everyone who took part and look forward to seeing St Andrews in blue and amber for the next round!
