Supporting Mental Health

#MoreThanFootball

For #MoreThanFootball and Mental Health Day, we’re highlighting two stories that showcase how fitness can support mental wellbeing.

Through our partnership with the Shrewsbury Primary Care Network, we run the Exercise on Referral programme which allows patients to access a structured 12 week exercise programme delivered by our health and wellbeing team. As a result of these tailored fitness sessions, we have seen tremendous growth in confidence and health across our participants, two of which are Dave and Michael.

Prior to joining the Exercise on Referral programme both Dave and Michael struggled with their mental health. Dave didn’t feel confident about his future, however these sessions allowed him to see a future for himself and gave him purpose. For Michael, the sessions helped him settle into his new life in Shrewsbury and build a network of support. Although they are both unique stories, they showcase the importance of fitness as a tool for change and how it can support mental wellbeing.
